More docs to be appointed soon to ensure health service, Health Minister tells parliament

DHAKA: Health and Family Welfare Minister AFM Ruhal Huq Sunday told parliament that some 3,551 doctors appointed on ad-hoc basis would join soon to resolve the prevailing doctors’ crisis.

“The ministry has already provided necessary guidelines to ensure their joining. The government will recruit more doctors for giving the health service to the common people of the country,” he said.

The minister made the statement in reply to a question of Md Israfil Ahmed MP of the ruling party from Naogaon-6 constituency.

He also informed the parliament that the government is also trying to fill-in the vacant posts in specialist level.

Dr Ruhal Huq also said that at present a total of 6,861 posts of assistant surgeon remained vacant. The number of vacancies for nurses is 2,627.

“The process of recruitment in the vacant posts of nurses is on, and it is almost complete,” he said while replying to a question from reserved-seat MP Ms Shammi Akhter.
