World Heart Day marked

DHAKA: The World Heart Day-2013 was marked in the country like elsewhere across the globe Sunday in a befitting manner.

The National Heart Foundation (NHF) in Dhaka arranged a colorful rally with the theme ‘take the road to a healthy heart’.

According to NHF a sum of 1.73 crore people died of heart diseases every year in the world where 80 percent from poor and middle income countries.

The National Heart Foundation (NHF) and United Forum against tobacco jointly organized a programme at National Heart Foundation office in city’s Mirpur area in the morning.

State Minister for Health Captain (retd) Mazibur Rahman Fakir attended the programme as chief guest while Women and children affairs ministry secretary Tariquel Islam as special guest.

National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh secretary general Brigadier General (retd) Abdul Malik confirmed it.

World Heart Day was created in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year and the numbers are rising.
