New sub-variant of Omicron identified in Bangladesh

Researchers have identified a new sub-variant of Omicron variant of Coronavirus or Covid-19 in the country.

A team of researchers of the genome centre of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) identified BA.4/5 sub-variant from two persons.  

Assistant Director (public relations) of JUST Abdur Rashid came up with this information while talking to journalist on Tuesday (June 21).  

He said the sub-variant has been identified from the body of two persons of the country. Of the persons, one is 44 years old while another one is 79 years.  

One of the new sub-variants of omicron variant infected person took booster dose while the other one received two doses of vaccine. One is now at hospital for treatment and another one is receiving treatment staying at home.
