Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police formed a special committee to combat a tide of eve-teasing nuisance and sexual harassment of women, as the government declared ‘zero tolerance’ against the latter-day Romeos on the heels of a High Court order.

Mir Abul Kashim, additional police commissioner of the DMP, heads the five-member committee. Three of the members are lady police cops.

DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq formed the committee in compliance with the order of the High Court, which came in the wake of self-immolation of a number of girls being victim of stalking by naughty boys.

The committee members are Krishnapada Roy, deputy police commissioner under Ramna Thana, Mona Lisa Begum, assistant police commissioner of Ramna Model Thana, Mira Mahmuda, assistant commissioner of the female police unit, and victim specialist Mominunnessa.

The committee will investigate complaints about eve teasing and sexual harassment in educational institutions, workplaces, and government-non-government institutions and then take action deemed fit against the debauches.

“Besides, this committee will submit annual report to the police headquarters about the situation of eve teasing and the actions taken,” said says a decision of an emergency meeting held Thursday about the formation of the committee.

Held at the DMP headquarters with Shahidul Haq in the chair, the meeting discussed the function to be performed by the special police body.
