Family members of dismissed and imprisoned BDR personnel protested for the second consecutive day Thursday (January 9) at Shahbagh intersection, demanding the release of "innocent jawans," a reinvestigation into the Pilkhana tragedy, and the reinstatement of dismissed members.
The protest, titled “Shahbagh Blockade,” began at 1:15pm on Thursday, with many protesters sitting or lying on the streets, disrupting traffic in the area.
The protest began on Thursday (January 9) around noon, causing a complete halt to traffic through Shahbagh.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Khaled Mansur confirmed the matter.
He said that the families of those affected by the BDR mutiny are leading the protest.
Earlier on Wednesday, protestors gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar before marching toward Shahbagh. Police intervened when they reached the intersection, prompting the demonstrators to stage a sit-in near the Shahbagh Police Station and the National Museum.
