438 killed in 419 accidents during Eid-ul-Fitr

A total of 419 people were killed and 1,424 injured in 419 road, rail, and waterway accidents during Eid-ul-Fitr, according to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.

Of those, 407 were killed and 1,398 injured in 399 road accidents in 15 days (from April 4 to 18) during this time, said Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organisation today (April 20). 

According to the information revealed at a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital, the road accidents and crash-related deaths during the Eid rush were 31.25 percent and 24.08 percent higher than the last year (2023).

Meanwhile, the injured number was also higher by 147.43 percent than that of the last year.

Besides, 24 persons were killed and 21 injured in 18 railway accidents, while seven were killed and five injured in waterway crashes, said Jatri Kalyan Samity.
