However, Coast Guard and Naval Police are making effort to rescue the missing sailor, he said.

Mehedi Zaman said when the incident occurred the sailors sought help calling on 999 while their vessel was sinking.

"Then I received a call from 999. Along with the river police personnel, I tried my best to rescue the cargo vessel's sailors amid strong current of the sea. But, we were compelled to come back abandoning the rescue operation due to strong current in the sea. It could not be possible to rescue the missing sailors so far," he added.
