CHITTAGONG: Newspaper hawkers on Saturday morning staged a demonstration and refrained from distributing national dailies in the metropolitan area of the port city for assaulting one of their fellow colleagues by the people of a newspaper agent.

But they distributed local newspapers to the subscribers.

Local sources said about 500 agitated hawkers staged a demo at gate No-2 in Sholshahar area at about 9am demanding punishment of those involved in assaulting their fellow man.

They also intercepted some newspaper-carrying vehicles coming from Dhaka at different points and threw the newspapers onto the road.

Newspaper agent Tafsir Ahmed said a meeting is likely to be held in the evening to resolve the problem.
