RAJSHAHI: Teachers of Department of Fine Arts in Rajshahi University Saturday have boycotted classes for an indefinite period to protest trouble by students.

Agitated students earlier vandalized their classrooms and confined five teachers including the Proctor of the University on Monday last to protest increase of examination form fees by the authority.

Following the incident, the teachers submitted a memorandum to the Academic Council and demanded exemplary punishment of the students involved in the incident.

“As the authority concerned did not take any action, we are boycotting class,” said Abdul Matin Chowdhury, chairman of the department.

The students, however, denied their involvement in the hooliganism. A third-year student of the department said, “We went to talk about the increased fee with the teachers. We did not vandalize the room or confined anyone.”
