Sadeeq Agro relocates cows ahead of DNCC eviction

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to conduct a drive to evict Sadeeq Agro farm, which was illegally built on the site of the Ramchandrapur canal and the adjacent road in Mohammadpur area, this morning.

Following the announcement of the operation, cows have already been removed from Sadeeq Agro. Reports indicate that several cows were moved out last night.

At around 10 am this morning, it was observed that several structures on the road and canal space in front of Sadeeq Agro had been removed.

According to local residents, many cows and goats that were previously kept in those areas were no longer there, having been relocated last night.

Local resident Rakibul Islam said, "After hearing about the operation, I saw several cows and goats being removed from Sadeeq Agro last night. They have also taken down the temporary structures and canopies on the road."

Another local resident, Masud Rana, mentioned, "There used to be a canal here, but it is no longer visible due to illegal encroachment. It has been almost filled up. Hearing about the impending operation, Sadeeq Agro and other nearby temporary structures have started to dismantle their setups. Since before the last Eid al-Azha, Sadeeq Agro had set up temporary structures, including canopies for selling cows, which they are now removing."

Although the DNCC's eviction team had not yet arrived at the location, many sanitation workers from DNCC had gathered there.

Sanitation worker Khorshed Alam said, "An operation by the North City Corporation will be conducted here. We have been instructed to be present on time and to clean the area after the operation."

No one from Sadeeq Agro was willing to comment on the removal of cows, structures, or the DNCC's eviction operation on the occupied land.

Meanwhile, the DNCC's property department had sent a letter to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner requesting the deployment of necessary police forces for the operation.

The letter mentioned that the illegally constructed structures on the canal and road space, including those by Sadeeq Agro Limited in Mohammadpur's Beribandh area under Zone-5 of Dhaka North City, would be removed. The eviction operation will be conducted on Thursday morning, requiring the presence of three platoons of male police forces and one platoon of female police forces.

A DNCC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Sadeeq Agro had occupied the canal space to establish their farm. Despite multiple notices, the farm authorities did not comply. Therefore, the operation will be conducted tomorrow (Thursday).

According to DNCC sources, the operation at Sadeeq Agro in the Mohammadpur Beribandh area will take place anytime after 11 am on Thursday. The operation will be led by DNCC's Motakabbir Ahmed and Executive Magistrate Mahbub Hasan.
