Bangladeshi top terror Mukul arrested in West Bengal

DHAKA: Bangladeshi top-terror Mukul has been arrested in Chabbish Pargana district of West Bengal, India.

British Scotland Yard had earlier confirmed his involvement in the grenade attack on August 21, 2004 on the then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Scotland Yard had scanned available photographs and identified his sketch, competent sources here said.

According to a top police official, Mukul used to lead and operate a major gang of terrorists in the capital.

“He used to use an M16 assault rifle,” the source said, wishing not to be named.

Diplomatic and Home Ministry sources said he would be handed over to Bangladesh authorities by the Indian government.

Makbul Hossain alias Mukul, hailed from Satkhira district, had long been on the run.
