PM parries ministersÔÇÖ plea for duty-free car import

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday turned down a request made by her ministers to allow them to import duty-free car like the lawmakers.

“Leave your position as Minister and enjoy facilities of a lawmaker,” the Prime Minister advised the ministers and state ministers at a chat at the end of a special Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat.

A Minister who was present at the meeting told banglanews24.com.bd that the matter was raised by some Ministers and State Ministers only to hear her laugh and denial.

One of the Ministers said, “When Members of Parliament purchase duty-free car, they don’t return it as we do as Minister handing over our vehicle to the government transport pool.”

She asked the Ministers to implement cent percent of the budget plan for their respective Ministries.

The issue of foray by the Rapid Action Battalion personnel into the residence of BNP leader Mirza Abbas also came up for discussion when the PM said: “RAB was created during the BNP regime.”

“Any evil plan to create anarchy in a planned way by the BNP will be taken care of with a strong hand,” she was quoted as having told the Ministers.
