10 Bangladeshi farmers injured in firing by Indian Khasias

SYLHET: Indian Khasia tribesmen allegedly shot and wounded 10 Bangladeshi farmers by raiding Sreepur frontier area in Jaintapur upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The injured were admitted to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex.

Locals said a group of Indian Khasias intruded 200 yards into Bangladesh territory crossing over the border in the morning and began to plough the farmlands of Bangladeshi villagers.

“As the farmers tried to resist them at about 1pm, the Indian tribesmen opened fire on them,” says a spot account of the attack. The shootings left 10 injured.

Major Mamun, Deputy Commander of 21 Rifles Battalion, said higher authorities were informed about the matter.
