Jurain Tragedy: Rashedul, Smriti remanded for 2 more days

DHAKA: Rita’s husband Rashedul Kabir and his second wife Razia Sultana Smriti were remanded for two more days in a case of provoking Rita into committing suicide along with her two kids in their Jurain residence.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Syeda Minhaz-um-Munira remanded them passed the order after the investigation officer of the case Mahbubur Rahaman produced the accused before the court with 7 days’ remand prayer.

General Recording Officer of the court Salwar Hossain said they got vital information about the case during the seven-day remand.

The prosecutors of the accused Habibur Rahman and Abdullah Al Mamun Rahsed, however, claimed that police found nothing from them in remand.

Police arrested Rashedul Kabir and Smriti on June 26 from in front of Pizza Hut in the city’s Gulshan area.

Earlier on June 21, the law enforcers arrested Rashedul`s parents Shafiqul Kabir and Noor Banu, sisters Kabita and Shukhon and brother-in-law Delwar Hossain Patwari from the capital. They are now in jail after six-day remand in two phases.

The bodies of Farzana Kabir Rita, first wife of Rashedul Kabir, and her son Ishrat Kabir Pabon, and daughter Raisa Reshmi Payel were found in their Jurain residence on June 10.

Rita`s mother Mazeda Begum filed the case with Kadamtoli Police Station against eight people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on June 11.
