Section 144 has been imposed in Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila and municipality as communal tensions erupted Tuesday noon following the mob lynching of a Bengali teacher over the teacher’s alleged role in raping an indigenous woman.

Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sujan Chandra Rai confirmed the matter.

About two weeks ago a similar mob killing of a Bengali youth on allegation of stealing led to communal tensions in Khagrachhari Sadar, which later spread to Rangamgati. Though indigenous people were alleged over the mob killing incident, a case was filed against three local Awami League leaders.
