Dr. Jamal Anwar Basu, the second son of renowned poet Jasim Uddin, passed away on Wednesday morning at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
He was 82.
He is survived by one son, two daughters, and numerous well-wishers.
Dr. Anwar, an arsenic specialist, previously worked in Germany and also served as a faculty member at Dhaka University. He split his time between Germany, Dhaka, and his ancestral home in Ambikapur, Faridpur.
His first wife, a German national, passed away in 2021. They have a son, Anidro Anwar, currently residing in Bangladesh. His second wife, Razia Anwar, is the mother of two daughters, Madhumala Jasim Uddin and Nakshi Anwar Jasim Uddin.
On December 23, Dr. Anwar suffered a head injury after falling in the bathroom at his home in Faridpur. He was initially treated at Faridpur Diabetes Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced care, where he succumbed to his injuries at 9 AM.
Dr. Anwar’s burial is scheduled for Wednesday night at the family graveyard in Ambikapur, Faridpur, near his ancestral home.
