Police arrested former social welfare secretary Ismail Hossain from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night.

Ershad Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Airport Police Station confirmed the matter. 

Police detained him under Section 54 of the CrPC, which allows arrests without a warrant. 

Ismail, a member of the 11th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration), was later taken to court, where police sought a seven-day remand. 

However, the court granted two days for further investigation.

Authorities are checking if there are any pending cases against him. Ismail, who was forced into retirement on October 22, could face further action if any allegations are confirmed.
