CHITTAGONG: A group of 78 BDR jawans of Baitul Ijjat training center in Satkania upazila were Wednesday arrested and sent to jail on court order for their trial on charge of involvement in last year’s massive mutiny.

A special court ordered their arrest. The four-member special court-4, led by BDR Director General Major-General Rafiqul Islam, passed the order after hearing the prima facie charges.

Nayek Subeder Shariful Islam Wednesday spelt out charges against a batch of 153 mutineers, including the BDR Training Center’s AD, Harunur Rashid, and DAD Md. Nurunnabi.

The court took the allegation into cognizance and issued the formal arrest warrant. It also directed producing all the 153 mutineers, including those in jail, before the special court at 9am Thursday.      

Of the accused, 75 are already in Chittagong Divisional Jail. And now the 78 were taken to the jail after arresting them from Baitul Ijjat Training Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Satkania thana OC Aslam Hossain filed a sedition case against 100 BDR Jawans on May 13, 2009. Joint forces had arrested the 75, including BDR Training Center’s AD Harunur Rashid and DAD Md. Nurunnabi, on May 15.

The accused BDR members of the training centre expressed their solidarity with the mutineers of Pilkhana Headquarters in Dhaka. They ran riot ransacking BDR office quarters, beating officers and looting arms.

The judge was assisted by Deputy Attorney-General Advocate Kazi Ejharul Hauque Akhand and two special PPs--Baharul Islam and Habibur Rahman.
