DHAKA: A parliamentary sub-committee has been formed to probe into the matters of alleged tender manipulation and corruption in the mismanaged Dhaka zoo.

The parliamentary standing committee on Fisheries and Livestock Ministry took the decision in Its 12th meeting at the parliament bhaban Wednesday. The committee, headed by Md. Ilias Uddin Mollah, has been asked to submit the probe report in 15 days.

Other members of the committee are Md. Maqbul Hossain and Manjur Quader Qureshi.

Wednesday’s meeting, chaired by standing committee chairman ABM Ashraf Uddin, was also attended by its members Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdul Latif Biswas, Md. Zillul Haqim, Md. Makbul Hossain, Zafar Iqbal Siddiqui, Manjur Quader Qureshi, Md. Ilias Uddin Mollah and Noor Afroj Ali.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the previous meeting’s decisions and plan for the unimplemented activities.

It also recommended taking initiative for fish cultivation in all canals, beels, haors, ponds and other water bodies around the country.

Standing Committee chief Ashraf Uddin told banlanews24.com.bd, “We have been receiving allegations about tender system in the zoo for a long time. Recently we received allegations of tender manipulation in purchase of feeds for animals and birds and some repair activities.

“Legal measures will be taken against the accused if the probe committee finds them guilty,” said the ruling-party lawmaker.
