Ruling-party MP Ilias Mollah sued for allegedly beating up police sergeant

SAVAR: Ruling Awami League MP Ilias Uddin Mollah was sued early Friday on charge of beating up a police sergeant in Ashulia area following traffic jam on his way.

Savar police sergeant Shariful Islam filed a case against him late Thursday night accusing the lawmaker of obstructing police duty, dishonoring government uniform and assaulting a police officer.

Ashulia police station Sub-Inspector Tapash Kumar Mandal has been appointed investigation officer of the case.

Ilias Mollah had to halt on Bypile-Abdullahpur road near Ashulia bazaar for traffic jam at 5:00 pm on June 30. He called the sergeant on duty, Shariful Islam, near his car. “At one stage of talk, he abused me verbally and assaulted me physically,” said the complainant.

Ashulia police station Officer- in- Charge Sirajul Islam told banglanews24.com.bd, “Further initiative would be taken on the basis of investigation.”

On condition of anonymity, a high official of Dhaka district police said, “It’s unfortunate.”

Mollah could not be reached on his cell-phone for his comment.
