COMILLA: Rail communications on 30 routes to the capital, Dhaka, and country’s eastern part halted as a passenger train derailed near Lalmai station here Sunday afternoon.

Railway sources said three compartments of Chittagong-bound ‘Mahanagar Provati’ from Dhaka fell off the tract at Duttapur near Lalmai station at about 1:30pm, leaving four passengers injured.

At least six passenger trains, including Chittagong-bound Paharika Express from Sylhet and Dhaka-bound Upokul Express from Chittagong, got stranded at different stations, leaving the passengers in abject sufferings.

Engineer of Comilla Station Shamsul Alam said, “Lack of skill of the drivers cause frequent accidents on the route.”

A total of 13 accidents have occurred within 10 kilometers of Comilla Zone of railway in last one month, sources said.
