Savar: The workers of two garment factories in the Ashulia hub of the export industry Monday went on work stoppage to press home their demands, mainly pay hike.

Police said the agitated workers of ‘Setara group’ began the work abstention at noon to realise their 12-point demands, including increase in wages and bonus and stopping retrenchment of and repression on workers.

The workers threatened to wage a tougher movement if their demands were not met.

On the other hand, the workers of AM Design Ltd. staged demonstrations in front of the factory and went on work stoppage demanding removal of their general manager (production) Md Suzan and director Motaharuddin for their alleged misbehaviour with the workers, particularly with the females.

Officer-in-charge of Ashulia thana Sirajul Islam said, “Police reinforcements were sent in to the area to fend off any trouble.”
