ASHUGANJ: Electricity supply to nine upazilas of Brahmanbaria and Kishoreganj districts has been suspended for three days for transformer-installation works in Ashuganj power substation, official sources said.

The upazilas are Brahmanbaria Sadar, Ashuganj, Sarail, Kashaba, Akhura, Nabinagar, Nasirnagar and Bhairab and Kuliarchar.

“The power supply will continue till Sunday,” said one source.

Gas Transmission Company Ltd, Petrobngla and Sailo and other important construction firms are facing a serious problem following the suspension of power supply.

Besides, some 1,000 small-and medium-scale industries and factories were shut for the power cuts that put around seven lakh people into complete blackout.

Kamal Hossain, a resident engineer of Ashuganj Power Development Board office, said power supply was suspended for installation of 132KV power transformers in the network at a cost of Tk 25 crore.

He said, “Power is being supplied to some areas, including Ashuganj fertilizer factory, through rationing.”
