PM takes hard line against Shibir infiltration into Chhatra League

DHAKA: Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina expressed her
concern over infiltration of Islami Chhatra Shibir men into pro-AL Chhatra League, troubled by frequent infighting these days.

An investigation is now underway to identify the infiltrators so that they cannot commit any sabotage, she was quoted as telling her party leaders in a political stocktaking meeting at a crucial time.

Sheikh Hasina also warned the Chhatra Leaguers against indulging in acts of terrorism,
tender manipulation and extortion.

The premier was addressing an extended meeting of the executive committee of her Awami League party at Ganobhaban, where the matter of amending the national constitution in keeping with changes on the political front also figured prominently.

“Anyone associated with any kinds of wrongdoing will not be spared. Stern action will be taken against those who will be listed for wrongdoing,`` she said in her strongly worded note of warning in the wake of various complaints.

Present at the meeting, AL general secretary and local government minister Syed Ashraful Islam urged the Members of Parliament of his party not to indulge in corruption.

He cautioned them saying that anyone accused of corruption would not get party nomination for election next time.

The meeting began at 5 pm and continued till 10pm. District committee
presidents and general secretaries attended the meet on special invitation by the party chief to paint a clear picture of what happens at the grassroots levels.

The district-level leaders raised several complaints on terrorism, tender
manipulation, communication gap between local MPs and the leaders, and
corruption in TR and Kabikha works before Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Hasina urged the party members to work for the people, not
for self-interest.
