DHKA: A Dhaka court Sunday fixed August 18 for reporting arrest of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko on charge of tax evasion.

Acting Judge of Senior Special Judge Court’s of Dhaka Ismail Hossain fixed the schedule.

Taherul Islam, a lawyer for Koko, told banglanews24.com.bd that Koko is now abroad for treatment on executive order of the government. And his tenure of parole has been extended by one month since July 14.

Deputy Tax Commissioner of the National Board of Revenue Shahin Akhter Hossain lodged the case against Koko on March 1 with Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Court.

The case states that the accused paid tax by hiding an income of a total of Tk 52,39,226 in the 2002-2007 period.

With serious illness, Koko and his elder Tarique Rahman were released on parole from jail at the fag-end of the caretaker regime of the emergency period and sent abroad for treatment.

The two brothers, their ex-premier mother and incumbent PM Sheikh Hasina were among a large number of high-profile persons incarcerated amid a massive anti-graft drive during the time.
