MYMENSINGH: Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Monday went on the rampage vandalizing the Polytechnic Institute here failing to get party activists admitted under special arrangement.

Police and institute sources said the first-year admission test at the college is scheduled for July 23. And the institute unit of BCL demanded of the authority to let 100 activists get through the admission gate on special considerations. But, the Principal refused to meet their “illogical demand”.

“Enraged by the authority’s strict decision, the BCL men ransacked the Principal’s room and some other rooms and establishments, creating a panicky situation on the campus,” says a spot account of the turmoil.

Giving a damn to the trouble, Principal Engineer M Farid Hossain stuck to his guns on the question of principle.

“I won’t bow to any amount of pressure--the exams will be held on July 23 as per schedule,” he said at an emergency meeting held later in the afternoon over the campus situation.
