RAJSHAHI: Pro-government Chhatra League activists clashed with Chhatra Samaj, the student wing of Jatiya Party, on Rajshahi College campus Wednesday, leaving at least 10 injured, one critically.

Critically injured CS activist Khokon was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Campus sources said the clash ensued at about 1pm when the BCL activists tried to resist the CS activists from assaulting Vice-principal Habibur Rahman following the filing of a case against them by the college authority over admission brawls.

Earlier on Tuesday, the CS leaders vandalized the BNCC building of the college as the authorities turned down their demand for introducing quota system in the HSC admission.

Later, the college authority lodged a case with Boalia thana, which irked the student activists of Ershad’s JP, a component of the AL-led ruling grand alliance.

Trying to settle the conflict, the college Principal on Wednesday morning had a meeting with the CS leaders at his office that ended inconclusively.

After the meeting, when the Vice-Principal came out of the office and reached the college gate, the Samaj activists slapped him, witnesses said.

Witnessing the assault of the vice-principal BCL activists rushed in and attacked the attackers that triggered a clash.

“The student politicos, both sides equipped with sticks, attacked each other and pelted brickbats,” says a firsthand report by banglanews24.com.bd correspondent.

On information, police rushed in and calmed the situation. They also arrested Chhatra Samaj Metropolitan President Monsur Ali and Organizing Secretary Shahinur Rahman from the spot.

Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert further trouble.
