Dhaka: A fire gutted five storehouses of garment leftovers called jhut in the capital city’s Pallabi area early Monday.

On information, eight units of fire service rushed in and brought the flames under control within two hours, sources said. It took up to 7 in the morning to completely put out the fire, which firefighters said might have originated from electric short circuit.

“Besides some machinery, paper-cartons and eight raw houses burned down in the blaze,” said a fire-brigade source.

The fire that occurred at the house No. 19/C of block-D around 1.30 am handed the owners an estimated loss of Tk 50 lakh, claimed one of the owners.
