Fresh labour unrest in Ashulia

SAVAR: Arrest of two garment workers on Wednesday night sparked fresh unrest in the trouble-prone apparel hub Ashulia Thursday morning.

banglanews24.com.bd correspondent quoting witnesses and police said workers demonstrated in front of Ocean Gate Sweater Factory of Palli Bidyut Dendabor area as the factory opened 8am Thursday.

“The demonstrators chanted slogans for release of their two fellow workers- Enamul and Anwar, who were arrested on charges of vandalizing the RMG factories,” on-duty police officer Shahdat said adding that the duo were released later.

The factory was shut for few days for unrests.

The workers were demonstrating to press home their 8-point demand that include a minimum wage of Tk 5,000, Masuma Akhter, one of the agitating garment workers said.
