Veteran journalist Akhtar-ul Alam passes away

Dhaka: Akhtar-ul Alam, a veteran journalist and diplomat, died of kidney complications at the United Hospital early Thursday. He was 71.


Alam left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.


During his long professional life, Alam worked as the Acting Editor and Advisory Editor of the daily Ittefaq and Editor of daily Dinkal. He also served as Bangladesh ambassador to Bahrain.


The veteran journalist had begun his career in 1970 working with the daily Azad. He also translated a book named “Bigyan Quran O Bible”.


Namaz-e-janaza for Akhar-ul Alam was held at Golarteck Eidgah ground after Asr prayers. Later, he was buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals` Graveyard.
