BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that there is no need to delay the elections now that the Election Commission (EC) has been formed.

According to him, people expect a clear and definitive statement from the Chief Adviser on the matter.

He was speaking at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Thursday morning.

Mirza Fakhrul also said that elections could be conducted promptly after completing the necessary electoral reforms.

Addressing discussions from the BNP Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday, Mirza Fakhrul expressed dissatisfaction with Dr. Yunus’s remarks on the elections, describing them as vague and lacking specificity.

He also criticized the Chief Advisor’s Victory Day speech, where it was mentioned that elections might be held in December 2025 or the first half of 2026.

Mirza Fakhrul called this timeline "completely unclear," noting that it failed to provide a specific timeframe.

Besides, he pointed out the contradiction with the Chief Advisor's press secretary, who suggested June 2026 as the possible election date, saying this inconsistency only adds to public confusion.

The BNP Secretary General reiterated the importance of a clear and unambiguous election schedule to ensure transparency and avoid unnecessary uncertainty.
