Order on Khaleda writ May 25

DHAKA: The High Court will pass its order, on May 25, over the writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the appointment of judges who framed charges of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

An HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Quazi M Izarul Haque made the decision after second day’s hearing of the writ.

Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia in the court while Attorney General Mahbub-e-Alam was the prosecutor.

On May 12, on behalf of Khaleda Zia, Advocate Asaduzzaman filed the writ petition challenging the indictment against her in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

On March 19, Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3 indicted Khaleda Zia, her eldest son, Tarique, and eight others in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.

Six people, including Khaleda and Tarique, were indicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust case, for embezzling over Tk 2.1 crore, by forming the fake trust in 1991.

In the other case involving Zia Charitable Trust, the ACC accused four people, including the BNP chief, of raising funds by misusing power of the PMO during 2001-2006.
