DHAKA: Bangladesh will lead to formulate an international policy on internet to increase its usages and prevent the objectionable virtual contents.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu cane up with the hope while addressing a 2-day conference organized Bangladesh Network Operators Group (bdNOG) at Gold Water Convention Center in the capital’s Bashundhara City.

Minister Inu said, “Society’s peace is damaged, if derogatory comments and pictures are published, even state’s security face threats sometimes.”

“To prevent these problems, government and the internet service providers will have to take joint initiatives,” the minister added.

Inu said, “The information technology is like a transparent glass house where women and children also live; to give them protection is a challenge to the state.”

“If the challenge is not faced we have to face damage, there will have to have a transparency in internet use,” he added.

Addressing the function, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zuniad Ahmed Palak said, “Country’s internet user increased remarkably in last five years, 24 percent of the total population has internet accesses.”

“Government has a plan to increase the users to 75 percent within next five years,” added Zunaid.

Presided over by bdNOG president Nurul Islam, its chairman Sumon Ahmed Sabbir attended the function.
