Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has said the gold industry is ready to lead the country's development journey.

"The gold industry has potential to grow further. My responsibility was to organise the members across the country. Now the industry, a family of 40,000 members, is ready to lead the country's development journey," he said at a function marking the anniversary of current executive committee of the organisation at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Thursday.

Bashundhara Group Director Sabrina Sobhan was the guest of honour on the occasion.

BAJUS President Anvir mentioned that Bashundhara Group is ready to set up any industry in the country as the government has been supporting businesses with prudent policies.

"We are setting up a state-of-the-art gold refinery with a target to manufacture 12,000 bhories of the precious metal. In five years of roadmap, we’ll produce 30,000 bhories of gold. It will create 40,000 employments," he said.

Before the cultural function, BAJUS launched a mobile application for the gold industry.
The app shares realtime market rates and notice of the trade body while members can pay fees by logging into the digital platform from Android and iOS powered smartphones.

The cultural function, on eve of the glorious Victory Day, began with national anthem recalling the contribution of valiant freedom fighters during the liberation war.

Top leaders from upazila and district units of BAJUS took part in the conference along with central committee members of the organisation.

The celebration was followed by music performance by folk singer Momtaz Begom and other singers.

Former BAJUS president Enamul Haque Khan shared guidelines on how to purchase old gold from individuals with their identity and memo.

Vice-President Gulzar Ahmed said the trade body has been continuing talks with banks and financial institutions for easing credit for gold traders.

General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala said the BAJUS members have been working together to increase contribution of gold industry to gross domestic products of the country.
