Middle and low income people have been hard hit by excess prices of protein. Visiting various markets in the capital, prices of some commodities including fish found increased over the week.

Market shows that fish price has soared after broiler chicken and egg. Same is case with broiler chicken and egg which are unstable since last week.

The cost of cultivated fishes has increased by Tk20- Tk50 per kg while prices of fish, living in open water bodies, increased by Tk100-Tk300 per kg.

Visiting in Malibagh kitchen market in the capital, it was seen that all fish prices including Pangas-Tilapia have surged. Earlier, Pangas was being sold at Tk150-Tk160, which is now Tk 170-220. Tilapia fish, on the other hand, is being sold at Tk 200-Tk 220. Earlier, the fish was being sold at Tk180-Tk200.

To fulfill the demand of protein, middle and low income people highly depend on Pangas and Tilapia fishes.  Increasing price it is affecting food intake of the middle and lower income group.
