Prices of broiler chicken, onion rise further

The prices of broiler chicken and onions have witnessed further hikes in the capital’s kitchen markets in just a week, creating pressure on the middle- and low-income consumers.

Visiting several kitchen markets in the capital on Friday (March 3), it was found that broiler chicken was sold for Tk 240-250 per kg, up from Tk 220-230 from the last week. 

Traders sold the Sonalika chicken variety for Tk 350-360 a kg, up from Tk 310 - Tk 320 a week ago.

Besides, layer chicken was sold at Tk310-Tk320, which was sold at Tk 280- Tk 290 in last week. 

On the other hand, onion prices in different kitchen markets across Dhaka have gone up from Tk 5 to Tk 10 per kilogramme within just a week. 

On Friday, a kg of onion was sold at Tk 40 which was Tk 30 – Tk 35 in last week. 

Small sizes of garlic was sold at Tk 120-Tk 130 per kg while ginger was sold at Tk 140-Tk 160 per kg in different marker in the capital. 

Mutton, beef prices go up too

The prices of mutton and beef have also increased in the local markets.

Beef prices hitting Tk 750 per kg in the city’s markets on Friday, compared to Tk 650 – Tk 700 per kg last week.

Mutton prices have hit Tk 1000- Tk 1100 per kg, a sharp rise from Tk 900 – Tk 1000 in the previous week.
