The government imported 62,000 eggs from India through Benapole land port on Sunday (November 6) evening.

The consignment with 295 cartons eggs entered the land port around 3.30pm. 

Acting Director of Benapole Land Port Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter.

The price per egg from India including duty stands at Tk7.23 when per dozen of eggs are being sold at Tk 60 in the retail market in the capital Dhaka.

The commerce ministry fixed the maximum retail price of farm eggs at Tk12 on September 14 and the ministry started permitting to import of eggs on September 17

A total of 15 companies have been given permission to import 15 crore eggs and each company will import one crore.
