JICA donates on airports’ development

DHAKA: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide a total of TK 183 crore as donation to enhance the development and the security system at four airports of the country.

The money would be used for Shah Jalal International Airport of Dhaka, Shah Amanat International Airport of Chittagong, Jessore Airport and Saidpur Airport.

A donation agreement between JICA and the government was signed at NEC Conference Hall of the Ministry of Planning in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the city on Monday.

Economic Relations Division (ERD) secretary Mesbah Uddin Ahmed and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

JICA will give a donation of 240 crore Japanese yen (TK 183 crore) under the Improvement of Airport Safety and Security System project.

ERD sources said the project’s main goal is to improve and modernize the soaring-landing and Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) systems of the four airports. Modern machineries will be added there soon.

Civil Aviation Authority will implement the project by June 2016. The authority’s headquarters and airport training centers will also be modernized under the project.
