DHAKA: Dhaka Customs Bond Commissionerate has confiscated bank accounts of 181 enterprizes due to the revenue defaults in past several months.

A restriction has also been issued on their import and export oeprations under 202 section of custom law on over 600 enterprizes.

Besides, lincenses of another 1,600 enterprizes have been cancelled.

According to the sources, most of the export-oriented industries had sold their imported goods in black market after getting tax-free bond facilities.

Dhaka Customs Bond Commissionerate as per direction of National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken strong position against those bonded enterprises which were involved in revenue leackage.

The bond authorities claimed that the revenue default amounted at TK 2.3 crore.

According to the authorities, the scam has been created due to the lack of manpower and logistic supports.

Only 165 employees have been supervizing around six thousand enterprises, they claimed.

On the other hand, some of the custom officials earn extra money by providing illegal facilities to the bonded enterprises.

Sources said that bank accounts of 181 enterprizes have been confiscated due to their default of huge amount of revenue.

Besides, bond facilities of 601 accused enterprises have also been cancelled under 202 section of custom law.

Moreover, bond licenses of 1,609 enterprizes have been suspended due to their irregularities.

The government has filed sertificate cases aginst 601 enterprizes to collect unpaid revenues.

Regarding this, bond commissioner Mohammad Shahidul Islam said the authorities have taken several steps including confiscation of bank accounts to create transparency in preventing revenue default.
