DHAKA: Visiting India’s state minister for external affairs and development of north-eastern region Vijay Kumar Singh commented that business will be expanded between two neighboring countries if there is any bilateral interest.

Singh commented at the Bangladesh-India business conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in city on Sunday morning.

VK Singh at the conference said that there are a lot of opportunities for Bangladeshi investment as well as business in India’s north-eastern region.

But the mutual interest of two countries should get importance, he added.

He commented that business will be expanded between two neighboring countries if there is any mutual interest.

According to him, possibility of development exists not only in hydropower sector but also in tourism, agriculture and other sectors in that region.

India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IBCCI) founding president Abdul Matlub conducted the conference attended by Bangladesh prime minister’s advisor of economic affairs Dr Mashiur Rahman as chief guest.

India’s Meghalaya state’s chief minister Mukul Sangma, Tripura state industry and commerce minister Tapan Chakrabarti and Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran, among others, attended the conference.

Indian high commissioner Pankaj Saran said that this sort of conference is important in developing business between the two nations.

India has invested so far $ 2.8bl in Bangladesh, he added.

According to him, Indian businesspeople are interested to invest more in Bangladesh.

The Indian envoy commented that Bangladesh government should take necessary steps to increase Indian investment.
