DHAKA: The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday urged Ahle Jamaat Wal Sunnat to withdraw Sunday’s hartal.

Country’s apex business organization, in a statement, also expressed their concern for the murder of Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi, a leader of Ahle Jamaat Wal Sunnat and a moderator of Channel-I.

Mentioning that currently the economic activities of the country are running smoothly, the FBCCI requested to pull out the strike.

The statement also said any negative activities, including hartal, will have a negative impact on the country’s economy and image and would discourage foreign investment.

It also said many countries, including Japan and China, are showing interest to invest more in Bangladesh due to prevailing business and investment-friendly environment in the country.

Earlier, Islami Chhatra Sena, student wing of the party, called countrywide half-day hartal for Sunday protesting the killing Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi and demanding arrest of killers.

Miscreants, on Wednesday (August 27), hacked Channel-I Islamic program presenter Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqi to death at his East Razabazar residence in city.
