PBL asked to return Tk30 cr to job seekers

DHAKA: Prime Bank Limited (PBL) has been ordered to return 2,500 job seekers’ Tk 30 crores which were taken from them by the bank agent in the name of mobile service.

On August 27, Bangladesh Bank sent a letter to Managing Director of the bank in this regard, where it was said that Prime Bank have to return the money by September.

Besides, the letter said that Prime Bank cannot avoid the responsibility of money embezzlements by their agents.

A high official of Bangladesh Bank told banglanews that Prime Bank have to return the security money otherwise actions will be taken against the bank.

On May 14, giving order to return the money to job seekers, Bangladesh Bank sent letter first, but the bank did not take any steps.

On August 6, Bangladesh Bank cancelled the approval of Prime Bank’s mobile banking service.

Prime Bank took a license from central bank for mobile banking service and signed a deal with Solution Provider SMG Info Com Limited.

Later, using the logo prime bank the institution appointed 2,500 agents and took Tk 30 crore security money from the agents.
