Loot at DCC revenue office, no investigation so far

DHAKA: The officers and the general employees of Mirpur regional revenue office of Dhaka City Corporation lamented that police and DCC authorities didn`t try to unearth the mysterious plunder in the office even after the lapse of a month.

They said no investigation committee has yet been formed and the authorities concerned just filed a general diary in this connection.

Wajed Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Thana, told banglanews.24.com.bd, "I don`t know anything about it. None from DCC did communicate with me in this regard."

When asked, Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka avoided making any comment on the matter.

On the other hand, Revenue Officer of Mirpur office Mizanur Rahman told banglanews24.com.bd that he informed high officials immediately after the incident and filed a written complaint with Mirpur Thana on August 15 on authority’s directions. But the police recorded the incident as general diary (GD).

On August 12 night, miscreants broke into DCC’s Mirpur Regional Revenue Office and looted about TK 15 lakh in cash and ransacked valuable papers and records in the lockers.

According to regional office sources, sometimes outsiders fall upon in the office and ransack valuable documents. “They are so mighty that the office cannot bar them,” said one source.

After such a break-in, the authorities were bound to keep the office closed on July 22, the sources said.

A proper investigation into the looting incident of August 12 could help in digging out the real problems of the office of revenue collectors in Mirpur, the officials opined.

Money receipts on revenue collection, deposit books, registers and bank account can be checked and compared to find out the real cause of looting Tk 15 lakh from the office, they said.
