DHAKA: The government has taken initiative to motivate private- sector entrepreneurs with cut-down costs for generating power as the country is suffering a lot for chronic electricity crisis.  

So, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) decided to cut license, renewal and waiver-certificate fees for generating power (captive power) from big generators in the private sector.

From now on, interested ones who want to generate power have to pay the BERC Tk 5,000 in license fee, TK 2,000 for renewal and Tk 1,000 for waiver certificate.

The decision was taken in an open meeting at the BERC office Wednesday.

According to Commission’s statement, earlier one had to pay TK 5 lakh for license fee, TK 5 lakh for renewal fee and TK 2,000 for waiver-certificate fee.

The government, recently, has taken initiative to amend the captive power policy, sources said.  

The government would buy power from these diesel and furnace oil-fired captive power plants for tackling the nagging crisis of power, if required.

Representatives of different ministries and agencies, including Commission Members engineer Emdadul Haq and Dr Selim Mahmud, were present at the meeting.
