The three-day Bangladesh Jewellery Expo-2022, first of its kind in Bangladesh, is set to begin today at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital to showcase homemade ornaments and excellence of local goldsmiths.

Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) is organising the fair, marking the golden jubilee of the country’s independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bangalee of all times.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is scheduled to inaugurate the jewellery expo as the chief guest.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan will be present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony with Bashundhara Group Managing Director and BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir in the chair.

The three-day exhibition, being arranged with an aim to expedite the country’s economic progress, will be held at halls 1, 2 and 3 of the ICCB. The venue will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm every day until Saturday in compliance with proper health guidelines.

The organisers expressed the hope that the expo will attract over 2 lakh visitors and buyers. Visitors and buyers have been invited to the Bangladesh Jewellery Expo to get acquainted with new designs of jewellery made by the goldsmiths of this country.

There will be big discounts for visitors to buy ornaments of their choice.

BAJUS announced Tk 10 lakh as the first prize and many other attractive prizes for the lucky visitors of the expo through raffle draw.

In a statement on Wednesday, BAJUS said the Bangladesh Jewellery Expo-2022 will play an important role in implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Vision 2041.

The fair is being organised under the directions of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir so that the jewellery sector can play a helpful role in the economic development of Bangladesh.

In this regard, BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir expressed the hope that the fair will take Bangladesh to a strong position to export gold and ornaments after meeting the local demand apart from flourishing the sector further. The contribution to GDP from the sector will reach a satisfactory level.

Chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Exhibition, Trade and Event Management Uttam Banik said there will be a fashion show at the expo to attract visitors.

“New designs of ornaments, made by the goldsmiths of the country, will be put on display at the expo. Besides, industry leaders at home and abroad will exchange their knowledge for further development of the sector,” Uttam Banik, who is also BAJUS Treasurer, said.

Earlier, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the BAJUS initiative will play an important role in implementing Vision 2041 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
