Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Sunday (May 15) requested customers to refrain from buying ornaments from jewelers which are not members of the organisation.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, former president of the BAJUS and chairman of District Monitoring Standing Committee, made the urge while addressing a view exchange meeting with jewelers of Pirojpur on Sunday. 

The programme was organied by Pirojpur committee of the association at SB Community Centre in the town.

At the outset, Pirojpur committee presented Sayem Sobhan Anvir with an honourary crest. Ruhul Amin Russel, business editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, received the crest on behalf of BAJUS president.

Jewellery sector of Bangladesh will reach new heights under the leadership of BAJUS president Sayem Sobhan Anvir, said Dr Dilip Kumar Roy.

He said jewellery products will bring laurels being exported with “Made in Bangladesh” logo.

Dr Dilip Kumar called upon gold traders to procure gold bars from certified dealers.

The country’s jewellery sector will supersede RMG considering export earnings, he hoped.

Laying emphasis on district committees, he said such committees will be formed within three months.

BAJUS will not take responsibility of any jeweler which is not member of the organisation, he said, requesting all concerned to be member within two months for free.

Masudur Rahman, vice-chairman of Standing Committee on Law and Membership, said gold business is linked to global economy.

The jewellery sector has seen light due to apt leadership of Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, he said.

Hailing from different parts of the country, gold traders are being united under the umbrella of BAJUS responding to the call of  its president Anvir, he added.

Md Joynal Abedin Khokon, member secretary of District Monitoring Standing Committee, urged gold traders to collect NIDs, photos and mobile phone numbers from customers while selling ornaments. 

BAJUS’s Pirojpur district general secretary Ripon Dutta moderated the programme which was addressed by member secretary of Standing Committee on Law and Membership Md Ripnul Hasan, member of District Monitoring Standing Committee Pabitra Chandra Ghosh and district adviser of BAJUS Delwar Hossain.

Around 100 gold traders from seven upazilas of Pirojpur joined the view exchange meeting.
