Buy gold ornaments examining quality & hallmarks: BAJUS

Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) speakers at a meeting have asked customers to buy ornaments assessing quality and hallmarks.

They made the call at view of exchange meeting on ensuring quality of gold ornaments held at level 19 of the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex at Panthapath in the capital on Wednesday (June 1).

Organised by BAJUS Standing Committee on Anti-Smuggling and Law Enforcement, the programme was presided over by chairman of the committee and former president of the organisation Enamul Haque Khan Dolan.  

They said the buyers and sellers will have to come forward to assess quality of ornaments before transaction.

MA Wadud Khan, chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law and Membership and former president of the organisation, said the existing gold labs have to be modernised in this regard.

He urged all concerned to form a monitoring committee to bring the outlets selling ornaments at cheap rate under watch.

Former BAJUS president Dr Dilip Kumar Roy cautioned the shopkeepers against any kind of cheating.

Former BAJUS president and chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Anti-Smuggling and Law Enforcement Enamul Haque Khan Dolan, and BAJUS vice-presidents Anwar Hossain and MA Hannan, Badal Chandra Roy, and Dr Dewan Aminul Islam made their stand clear that the organisation will not take responsibility of any trader, if involved in selling smuggled and low quality gold.

BAJUS general secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala, assistant secretary Samit Ghose, anti-smuggling and law enforcement committee’s vice-chairman and assistant secretary of the organisation Bidhan Malakar, and assistant secretaries Joynal Abedin Khokon, Md Liton Hawlader, among others, were present.
