Jeweller comes under criminal attack in Madaripur 

A jeweller in Madaripur sadar has come under criminal attack for refusal to pay extortion.

Two extortionists hacked the trader named Munna Jamaddar demanding Tk 2 lakh extortion on Saturday.

The victim received treatment from a local hospital. The attackers have been identified as Shishir Khan and Shitol Howlader, residents of Amirbad of the district town.
Talking to daily sun, Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Model Police Station Monwar Hossain Chowdhury said the businessman was attacked around 11:30am.

Asked about the case, the OC said he invited victim family members to the police and suggested them to file a case.

“They (victim family members) said they would lodge the case on Monday,” he said.

 But the leaders of Madaripur Unit of Bangladesh Jewellers Association said that two extortionists carried out attack as the businessman refused to pay them extortion.

The association filed a case, but the OC did not record it, they alleged.

CCTV footage of the incident shows that two youths riding on a motorcycle stopped in front of the trader’s shop at Old Bazar area and one was locked in altercation with the victim.

The person, on the bike, got down and swopped on the jewellery businessman and another person joined him.

As the trader tried to resist, one of the criminals opened a big a knife and began to hack the trader.

Hearing screaming, neighbouring shop owners rushed to the spot and rescued the businessman.

President of Madaripur Unit of Bangladesh Jewellers Association demanded immediate the arrest of the culprits. If attackers are not arrested, all jewellery shops of the district will be closed, they threatened.
