Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has restored status of the jewellers by a modern gold policy which was time of the day.

Leaders of Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) made the statements during a view exchange meeting with Kurigram district unit on Thursday.

BAJUS former president Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, attending the programme as the chief guest, said “Earlier, gold traders were underestimated. A section of people used to label jewellers as smugglers. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina relieved them of the stigma by a timely gold policy."

Recalling contribution of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, he said “The Bashundhara Managing Director Anvir is relentlessly striving to bring back congenial atmosphere to the jewellery sector.”

Meanwhile, BAJUS, in another programme, demanded safe business environment for local businesses as many retailers experienced harassments from a section of law enforcers.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy sought intervention from home minister to improve the situation while addressing a meeting in Lalmonirhat as chief guest the same day.  

“Jewellery owners and employees across the country are constantly experiencing theft and police harassment,” he said.

Dr Dilip appreciated the dynamic leadership of BAJUS president Sayem Sobhan Anvir for his endeavour to bring gold days of gold industry.

He urged the local units of the organisation to cooperate with the central committee to reach the success collectively.

BAJUS advisor Ruhul Amin Rasel was special guest while Lalmonirhat unit president Himanshu Sarkar presided over the meeting. BAJUS executive member Reponul Hasan and District monitoring committee member Enamul Haque Sohel and district unit general secretary Dulal Chandra Karmakar were also present on the occasion.

In Jamalpur view exchange meeting, BAJUS general secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala said the organisation under the new presidency is working to bring all gold traders under an umbrella.

BAJUS President Anvir is leading the organisation with aptness, focusing on quality of the products and boosting confidence of the customers.

“As per advice of BAJUS president, central leaders are holding view exchange meetings with district and other units. They are identifying and resolving problems. The body’s membership has exceeded 40,000 after simplification of the entry procedure.”

Jamalpur unit president Farrukh Ahmed presided over the programme which was addressed by vice-chairman of Standing Committee on Law and Membership Masudur Rahman and member of Standing Committee on District Monitoring Chandan Kumar Ghosh.
