Gulshan fire death toll reaches two

The death toll in the last night's fire in a residential building in Gulshan-2 reached two as another person succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital early today (Feb 20). 

The deceased was identified as Md Raju, a cook in an apartment on the seventh floor. The victim had suffered injuries after jumping off the building.  

He breathed his last around 3:30am at Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College & Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd.

The fire broke out at the building out around 7:00pm yesterday. Firefighters rescued 11 women, a child and 10 others from the building on road 104.

Another man named Anwar Hossain was killed after the deadly fire engulfed the 12-storeyed building on Sunday.

Brig Gen Main Uddin, director general of the fire department confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

22 people — nine men, 12 women, and one child — were rescued from the building.

Later, the army and air force also joined the rescue operation and the fire was brought under control after four hours.

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee has been formed over the fire incident.
